Membership in the Global Repair Café Network
Repair Café is a movement that began with the simple philosophy of 'repairing things,' originating in the Netherlands. At repair sites that have spread to over 2,500 locations worldwide, people take on the challenge of repairing all kinds of items including clothing, furniture, electrical appliances, bicycles, dishes, and toys.
Visitors bring their broken items and work together with experts in their respective fields to repair them. As official members, we regularly participate in local events in the Netherlands, while in Japan we primarily provide expertise in repairing E-bikes and mechanical watches. This is an initiative to revive various products through parts procurement capabilities leveraging our global network and repairs by specialized technicians.
Product repair requires trust relationships among many stakeholders, including manufacturer warranties and specialized repair shop expertise. We carefully assess the feasibility of repairs to ensure we do not compromise product warranties, and when necessary, we serve as a bridge to professional repair shops.
Repair Café activities are never intended to replace the existing repair industry. Rather, we aim to contribute to the development of the professional repair industry as a whole by demonstrating the value of 'repair' as an option to society.
Regarding the relationship with product warranties, there are still many considerations and concerns to address. Through our initiatives at Repair Cafe FUKUOKA, this is also a project to explore the ideal form of 'Repair' in Japan.
